LAWN CARE CAMPAIGN

The Maryland Pesticide Network is a member of the National Coalition for Pesticide-Free Lawns, www.pesticidefreelawns.org,  a coalition working to:

" …halt senseless exposure to lawn pesticides and to educate the public,  landscapers, and policy makers on the use of non-toxic and least-toxic lawn care practices and products”

The National Coalition for Pesticide-Free lawn holds that, “ Change begins at local level. The public plays an extremely important role in lawn pesticide reform – not only in the way it perceives the use of toxic pesticides in homes and communities but also in the way it demands safe alternatives from retailers, organic services from lawn care providers, and better protection from pesticide exposure from local policy makers."

MPN  is conducting a door-to-door campaign in Columbia, MD as a pilot project, to educate residents on the hazards of  pesticides and encourage  their use of non-toxic and least-toxic lawn care practices. Building on the success of this effort, MPN plans to expand its efforts to other communities in the state. If you are interested in getting involved in this project, please contact Kim Birnbaum at 410. 849.3909, ext. 4 or email her at info@mdpestnet.org
