Pesticides and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
Healthier Alternatives
Encouraging greater awareness, understanding and use by consumers of products and methods that are healthier alternatives to pesticides and herbicides is an important part of the work of The Pesticides & the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Project. This covers a potentially wide range of activities, from promoting organic land and lawn care to encouraging use of non-toxic Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques.
While pesticide pollution from agriculture remains by far the major source of chemical contamination of the Bay, pesticide runoff from commercial, governmental and residential land is growing, as human population and development increase throughout the region. The links to documents below provide a range of information and guidance for consumers, homeowners and managers of commercial, institutional and government property.
